Warnham Park
The Lucas family have owned Warnham Park since 1854. Selection criteria is rigid with only 5-10% of the stags born going into the herd for further evaluation before reaching breeding age.
Warnham has held all known British antler records for length, spread and points and have exported to many countries around the world.
The deer of Warnham Park have made a profound contribution to the New Zealand deer industry since 1982.
Apart from the numerous capital sires over the years and many record antlers, in more recent years we have had through embryos, sons of Bruno, Hercules (sire of 530 SCI Hermes), Duncan (sire of $95,000 Mountbatten), and Norton (sire of Norton II)
Currently we have introduced by way of semen and embryos new genetics from the superb sire Norton. Powerful lower tynes, very wide and multipointed, a top new sire for the industry.
New CIC record and record for weight Hotspur was out of a Warnham Hind by Andrew II.
As at March 2011, an exciting new dimension of Warnham park breeding will be in use at the stud with semen imported from Heracles and the amazing Bartholemu a truly outstanding sire, very heavy and over 40 points, probably the best sire at Warnham in 20 years.
New Sires
As at March 2011, we have had imported semen from the flat wide multi-pointed Heracles and the amazing Bartholemu, (likely the best stag at Warnham since WWII and also a son of Duncan). The first yearlings from Bartholemu are on the ground and very exciting.
The number of ranked Warnham sires in our industry are too numerous to mention here but without doubt have positively influenced a huge sector of New Zealand deer farming.
